The Skakavac Natural Monument, located about 12 kilometers north of the center of Sarajevo, is one of the most valuable natural areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Due to its exceptional landscape and ecological value, the area was officially protected as a natural monument in 2002.

To support nature conservation while expanding Sarajevo’s tourism offer, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, in cooperation with the Municipality of Centar Sarajevo, supported the implementation of the project “The Story of Sarajevo Waterfalls implemented by the Skakavac Mountaineering Association.” The project aims to promote sustainable tourism and guide visitors toward new natural attractions within the wider area.

As part of the project, a new natural attraction has been presented to visitors – the Lučica Waterfall, located on the southern slopes of Sarajevo’s Ozren Mountain above the village of Nahorevo. This waterfall, also known as Troskok, is characterized by its elegant drop over three granite cascades reaching a height of about 30 meters.

To make this area easier to explore, six hiking trails with a total length of about 100 kilometers have been developed and marked, connecting the Skakavac and Lučica waterfalls with numerous natural and cultural sites. The trails are presented on the page and will also be available through an interactive application that enables easier orientation and access to information about routes and points of interest.
